What is float?
Float is a number between 0 and 1 representing wear. Lower float = cleaner look on most skins.
| Tier | Float range (typical) |
|---|---|
| Factory New | 0.00 — 0.07 |
| Minimal Wear | 0.07 — 0.15 |
| Field-Tested | 0.15 — 0.38 |
| Well-Worn | 0.38 — 0.45 |
| Battle-Scarred | 0.45 — 1.00 |
Exact boundaries can vary slightly by skin. Always check the specific item.
Why collectors pay for low float
- Cleaner visuals on metallic and vanilla finishes
- "#1 float" rank prestige on expensive items
- Trade-up outputs targeting FN/MW
Premium is skin-dependent. A Battle-Scarred hide might barely change price; a 0.00x AK or Deagle can command huge markup.
Patterns: when the skin is not just wear
Some finishes use a pattern index that changes color placement — fades, case hardened blue, marble fades, etc.
- Fade % — Higher fade percentage (e.g. 98%+) increases price on applicable knives
- Case Hardened — Blue gem patterns on AK and knives
- Marble Fade — Red/blue tip distribution matters
Compare pattern screenshots when buying high-tier skins — float alone is not enough.
How to inspect float
- Open inventory → inspect skin
- Note wear name and float in inspect panel
- Cross-check on a trusted marketplace listing for duplicate verification when buying
Float and trade-ups
Trade-up output wear ties to average input float. Planning a FN outcome starts with FN/MW inputs.
